To mark Careers Week, Jane and her team decided to bring a little of their student-facing work into the staffroom. At an all-staff meeting, they ran a short, energising workshop using the CADI Clusters to spark fresh conversations about career identity — not just for students, but for the grown-ups too.
In the lead-up, each staff member completed the CADI Clusters Quiz. At the workshop, the team shared a breakdown of the group’s results: who leaned Guardian or Innovator, which teams had the most Linkers, and so on. The real magic happened when volunteers from each Cluster stood up and spoke about how their Cluster traits show up in their day-to-day roles.
How it played out
Jane shared this with us:
“We wanted to give them a taster of what we do with our young people. So we got them all to complete the Clusters Quiz and then did a little breakdown of the data, looking at different teams and different roles. We then got a volunteer from each Cluster to answer some coaching questions relating to how that Cluster shows up in their role. It was really fun and really well received – so thank you!”
It was a simple activity — no tech setup, no complicated logistics — but it opened up meaningful dialogue. By sharing their results and reflections, team members were able to see their roles (and each other) in a new light. It wasn’t just professional development — it was an energising, affirming moment of connection.
Try it yourself
You don’t need to run a big event or have formal facilitation training to do something like this. Here’s how you could adapt the idea for your own team, students, or leadership group:
Quick how-to
- Get everyone to take the CADI Clusters Quiz — either beforehand or at the start of your session.
- Group or visualise the results (a simple count on a whiteboard or slide works well).
- Ask one person from each Cluster to share:
- How their Cluster shows up in their current role
- What energises them about their work
- One strength or challenge they associate with their Cluster
Tips
- Keep it relaxed. You’re aiming for reflection, not performance.
- Choose or write a few guiding questions to support volunteers if needed.
- If you’re working with students, try adapting the questions to suit their level and experiences.
This kind of low-prep workshop is ideal for PD days, team meetings, or as an icebreaker during Careers Week. It helps reinforce that career identity isn’t just something we talk to students about — it’s something we can all reflect on and grow through.
